Review by George Norman (Cybersecurity Editor)

on 25 May 2017

LaZagne’s purpose is to find locally stored passwords and retrieve them. According to the developer, it can retrieve passwords stored by Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer, Skype, Pidgin, Outlook, Thunderbird, Tortoise SVN, Squirrel, Robomongo, CoreFTP, Cyberduck, OpenSSH, and more.

LaZagne for Windows doesn’t have to be installed. To get started with this application, you need to run the LaZagne executable (LaZagne.exe) via the command prompt (cmd). Use the "-h" command to access the Help and view a list of commands. Use the "all" command to launch all modules, use the "browsers" command to launch the module that retrieves all the passwords stored by your browsers.

These reviews have a certain structure. In paragraph one, I have to explain what the software does. In the second paragraph, I have to talk about the installation process. And in the third paragraph, I have to say something about the interface. But, as mentioned above, LaZagne has to be used via cmd – it doesn’t have an interface of its own.

LaZagne can retrieve locally stored passwords were collected by 10 types of applications:
1. Sysadmin – Apache Directory Studio, CoreFTP, Cyberduck, FileZilla, FTPNavigator, OpenSSH, PuttyCM, WinSCP.
2. Browsers – Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera.
3. Instant messengers – Jitsi, Pidgin, Skype.
4. Databases – DBvisualizer, Robomongo, Squirrel, SQLdeveloper.
5. Games – Galconfusion, Kalypsomedia, Rogue’s Tale, Turba.
6. Git – Git for Windows.
7. Mail – Outlook, Thunderbird.
8. SVN – Tortoise SVN.
9. Wi-fi – Wireless network.
10. Internal passwords storage – .NET Passport, Generic Network, Windows hashes, LSA Secret.

LaZagne is free and open source software.
